The challenge

Self-mastery precedes success

Almost everyone knows habits rule. Knowing isn't the hard partβ€”doing is. We typically try to change through sheer willpower, and we fail.

High performance isn't a matter of momentary motivation but of self-mastery: deliberately designing the habits that produce the results you want.

There are no organizations or individuals without habits. There are only those who deliberately design them and those who do not.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is The Power of Habit?
The Power of Habit is an official Crucial Learning course, based on Charles Duhigg's bestseller and the latest science on habit formation, that teaches how habits work and how to build them using skill instead of willpower. Its core tool is the habit loop: cue, routine and reward.
How long is the Power of Habit course?
It runs one day (8 hours) in person, three 2.5-hour virtual sessions, or 4 to 6 hours of self-paced on-demand learning. Every format includes a four-week reinforcement experience.
What languages is the Power of Habit delivered in?
It is delivered in more than 20 languages, including Spanish and English, always with native trainers and participant materials in the local language.
Does the Power of Habit include a certificate?
Yes. All formats include the official Crucial Learning certificate of completion, valid for internal development plans.
Why is it so hard to keep a new habit?
Because willpower alone isn't enough: habits live in a cue-routine-reward loop. Change only the routine without touching the cue or reward and the old habit returns. The course teaches you to redesign the whole loop with method.
Does the Power of Habit work for team habits, not just personal ones?
Yes. Individual self-mastery scales to team and organizational habits, which follow the same cue-routine-reward mechanics and can be redesigned the same way. Alcoa, for example, automated a safety routine at the organizational level with a direct impact on efficiency, productivity and revenue.
How is the Power of Habit different from a productivity course or GTD?
GTD organizes your tasks and commitments; the Power of Habit works one level below: the automatic behaviors you repeat without thinking. One orders what you do; the other changes how you act by default.
How is the Power of Habit different from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Covey)?
Stephen Covey's 7 Habits is a framework of principles and character: it proposes seven foundational habits (be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, etc.) that guide how to live and lead. It is philosophical and aspirational, working as a compass of values. The Power of Habit is about the mechanics of change, not which principles to adopt: it explains how any habit forms and breaks (the cue-routine-reward loop) and gives you a method to redesign the one you choose. Put differently: Covey tells you which habits you should have; the Power of Habit gives you the science and tools to truly install or remove them, whatever the habit. They complement each other well: define your principles with Covey, install them with the Power of Habit.
Can the Power of Habit be combined with Crucial Influence?
Yes, they fit well together. The Power of Habit explains the mechanics of the individual habit; Crucial Influence adds the six-sources model to sustain change at team or organizational scale.
Can the Power of Habit be delivered privately for my company?
Yes. We bring it into your organization in person or virtually, adapted to your sector and your teams' real cases, coordinated with your L&D team.
Do I need prior knowledge to take the Power of Habit?
No. The course starts from scratch and works for any level of responsibility. Each participant practices with the real habits they want to change in the session.
How does the four-week reinforcement experience work?
After the training, for four weeks participants receive micro-practices, reminders and short challenges that ensure transfer to the job. It is one of the elements with the biggest impact on learning retention.
